Interactive Video Installation “Hand in Hand”

When you hold someone’s hand in this project, the video before you will be exchanged with other person. It’s an experimental work to observe people’s interaction due to psychological changes.
This project is a collaborative work by my team done in the Interactive Video Design course. “Hand in Hand” is an interactive video installation consisting of two screens and a wall separated the two screens. The two screens are watched by two people respectively: one plays a pleasant video, the other plays a horror film. On the wall there is a hole through which two people can hold onto each other’s hand. Only when they held hands, can the human body bridge (a module we installed) be activated. Once it’s on, the two videos will be exchanged. When they watch their videos they may experience different emotion, “comfort” or “discomfort”. Different ‘psychological’ changes will lead people to change their “behavior” differently. Thus it’ll affect the interaction between the two people. At last, it comes the time to meet the need of the other person, or their own. All in all, the installation is designed to be like an experiment discussing meeting our needs or other’s needs.

Medium: Arduino, Max, circuit boards, wires, photosensitive modules, human body bridge module, screens
